Holidays are the best test of a company’s organisational maturity

ubimia® maintains that truly switching off does not depend on turning off your computer, but on having a way of working that allows the company to continue operating even when part of the team is on holiday

Madrid, 28 July 2026 – Every summer, the same situation is repeated across thousands of companies. Projects slow down, decisions wait for certain people to return, meetings are postponed and employees continue responding to messages from the beach to prevent work from piling up.

Although the right to disconnect digitally is recognised, the reality is that many organisations still depend on the knowledge and availability of specific individuals. Holidays, more than any other time of year, reveal the extent to which a company is genuinely prepared to operate autonomously.

For ubimia®, a Spanish multinational specialising in technology, data and Artificial Intelligence solutions for credit lifecycle management, the challenge is not how holiday schedules are organised, but how work is organised throughout the year.

“Many companies discover during the summer that certain processes still depend on specific individuals. When someone goes on holiday and activity slows down, the problem is not the holiday itself, but how work is organised”, explains Agustín Rodríguez, CEO of ubimia®.

For several years, the company has operated under eWORK, an organisational model that goes beyond remote working and establishes a structured way of coordinating teams regardless of where they work. The system combines autonomy, clearly defined objectives, regular monitoring, standardised processes and proprietary tools that facilitate coordination between distributed teams.

This approach ensures that knowledge remains within the organisation rather than depending exclusively on specific individuals, reducing the bottlenecks that tend to become more visible during the summer months.

The company’s offices also reflect this same philosophy. They are conceived as collaborative spaces to be used when they add value to teamwork, rather than relying on constant physical presence, supporting a more flexible and efficient model.

According to ubimia®, holidays are one of the best indicators of a company’s organisational maturity. If business continues as usual despite the temporary absence of part of the team, it means that processes are well defined. When the opposite occurs, it is usually a sign that knowledge remains too concentrated in specific individuals.

“The best right-to-disconnect policy is not simply about avoiding emails or calls during holidays. It starts much earlier, by designing an organisation capable of continuing to operate normally even when part of the team is enjoying time off”, concludes Rodríguez.
